Gender-Ed

A series of modular workshops for organizations to foster LGBTQIA+ community and belonging in the institution through interactive workshops or lectures that illuminate the spectrum of human gender and sexuality.

Each module runs for about an hour and can be remixed to suit your organization’s needs.

What’s Gender?

A module to illuminate the complexity of all things gender. It accomplishes this by explaining the social and physiological mechanisms that bring gender into existence. Working off the idea of gender as an umbrella superstructure, What’s Gender? demonstrates how biology and culture co-create what we call gender and how this relates to other social structures such as biological sex, sexuality, race, ability, and age using an intersectional framework.

All About Pronouns

A module to explain the importance and etiquette of sharing pronouns. It tackles the linguistic functions of pronouns, the history of English pronouns, and the syntax of sharing pronouns. What sets this apart is the way All About Pronouns reframes pronouns as an extension of names rather than a definite indication of an individual’s gender identity. However, this workshop also covers the ‘gender baggage’ associated with pronouns in English and the background.

What’s Queer?

A module dedicated to the many meanings and usages of the word ‘queer.’ On a practical level, this workshop reviews LGBTQIA+ identity terminology and cultural standards for supporting the broader LGBTQIA+ community. Beyond this, What’s Queer? goes over the political and philosophical tensions within queer politics and theory.

What’s Trans?

A module dedicated to the transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming communities and their relationships to gender. On a practical level, this workshop reviews terminology and cultural standards for supporting the trans+ community. Beyond this, What’s Trans? highlights the formation of trans identities from the medical institutions, to the community, and from around the world.

Queer/Trans History

A module that traces the lineage of LGBTQIA+ identities relevant to the contemporary western society. It condenses nearly two hundred years of history into a digestible narrative that will spark curiosity in the participants to dig in further. It also highlights multiple perspectives on how to do Queer/Trans History and addresses the major question: have queer and trans people always existed throughout all time?

Playing with Gender

A module that offers tips for participants to explore their sense of self in relation to gender, sex, and sexuality by providing actionable suggestions across a wide range of embodied experiences such as playing with clothing, hair, movement, sexuality, and more! Playing With Gender hopes to inspire creativity and joy in the face of a system that often seeks to suppress and constrain gender playfulness and exploration.
